KOH PHANGAN TRAVEL GUIDE




Come and discover one of the Thailand's Best Kept Secrets : KOH PHANGAN. Koh Phangan is an island off eastern Gulf coast of Thailand, it located between Ko Samui and Ko Tao. Koh Phangan is famous for the FULL MOON PARTY (http://fullmoonparty-thailand.com/) which is held on full moon night every month. This is the world famous beach party which attract thousand visitor every months.

GETTING THERE

1. By Plane - The closest airport at Koh Samui which has frequent flight from Bangkok, Phuket and Penang (http://www.firefly.com/), daily flight from U-tapao (at Sattahip, 30km south of Pattaya) and Singapore, several flights a week from Chiang Mai and Kuala Lumpur (http://www.berjaya-air.com/). Then from the Koh Samui airport, it easy to find any transportation to Ferry Pier. The next nearest airport located at Surat Thani (on the mainland).

2. By Boat - From Samui - There are approximately 10 daily transfers to Koh Phangan. The trip takes approximately 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the weather conditions. Boats leave from Thong Sala Pier and Haad Rin on Koh Phangan to Koh Samui Pier including Na Thon Pier, Mae Nam and the Big Buddha. Ferry from Big Buddha pier (around 15 minutes from Samui airport) to Haad Rin Pier. Seatran Catamaran (High Speed Boat) from Bang Rak pier (around 10 minutes from Samui airport) to Thong Sala on Koh Phangan. (http://www.lomprayah.com/)

From Bangkok - the cheapest way is by bus (from Khao San road) http://www.khaosanroad.com/charlieconnection/index.htm) or train (Hualamphong station) to Surat Thani, and take ferry from Donsak pier. You can buy a joint ticket in Bangkok on Khao San Road.
GET AROUND
1. Motocycle - the best way to around the island by rent a motocycle, many places around the island provide that service but carefully because the road here very dangerous because so narrow and unpaved. The rental between 150 - 200 Baht per day.
2. Songthaew - pick up truck taxis operate on the island with fare 100 Baht.

THINGS TO DO
1. Full Moon Party is on Haad Rin beach, very crowded beach on the island, many party lover around the world came here just for this party.

2. Bottle Beach (Haad Khuat)- The beach is quite and good for snorkeling. Bottle beach can only be reached by boat.
3. Massage - many places offer this service.
4. Snorkelling - this the best way to see underwater world at this island. many snorkel spot around this island and mostly at northwest area, best spot around Koh Ma or Horse Island.

5. Learn Thai Cooking - u can try this at Same Same restaurant, learn how to cook Green Curry and Tom Yam Khung.

EATING

The best area to find cheap and best food is definetely Thong Sala, main town on the island. Halal food hard to find here, next to 7 leven Thong Sala have 1 lady sell the pulut ayam. If u crazy about somtum maybe somtum inter the right place but only somtum, halal and other maybe not.

2. Kimera Restaurant next to Phangan Bayshore - Italian Food

3. Sheesha at Chaloklum (northern part of Koh Phangan) - International menu & bbq.

4. Hot Moon at Haad Yao beach - salads, breads, pastas, burgers etc.

5. Luna Lounge at the village of Thong Nai Pan Noi (close to entrance) - Thai, Moroccan & western.

SHOPPING
Thong Sala market the right place to buy cloths, shoes, souveniers, electronics etc. Haad rin area also many of shop but price more expensive compare to Thong Sala but overall the price here cheaper than Samui.
